Over nine days, you explore seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu, spend two full days on jeep safari and jungle walks in Chitwan, and walk the sacred gardens, ancient ruins and international monastic zone of Lumbini. Every transfer is arranged — Kathmandu to Chitwan by private vehicle, Chitwan to Lumbini by road, Lumbini back to Kathmandu by domestic flight. Your Sacred Triangle journey begins at Sacred Trails Homestay in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu. Your driver meets you at the airport for a personal welcome and brings you directly to the homestay — your home for the first three nights. In the evening, stroll 500 metres to the ancient Budhanilkantha Vishnu Temple before sitting down to a home-cooked welcome dinner of Nepali dal bhat and a relaxed orientation for all nine days ahead.
Dawn aarti at Pashupatinath Temple on the Bagmati River — Nepal's holiest Hindu site. Circumambulate Boudhanath Stupa with monks and pilgrims. Climb to Swayambhunath for panoramic valley views. End the afternoon at Kathmandu Durbar Square and the Kumari living goddess courtyard. All four UNESCO World Heritage Sites in one well-paced day, with a 90-minute lunch break built in.
Drive to Patan Durbar Square — the finest Newari architecture in Nepal — and continue to Bhaktapur, Asia's best-preserved medieval walled city. See the 55-Window Palace, taste the famous juju dhau king yogurt, and watch traditional potters at Pottery Square. Leisurely lunch in Bhaktapur, then an early return to Sacred Trails to pack for Chitwan tomorrow.
After breakfast at Sacred Trails, your driver departs for Chitwan National Park — a scenic 5-hour drive through Nepal's Terai lowlands. Afternoon canoe ride on the Rapti River spotting crocodiles and kingfishers. Visit the Elephant Breeding Centre. Evening Tharu cultural dance performance around the lodge campfire. No safari today — just settle in and feel the jungle.
6:00 AM jeep safari into Chitwan's core zone — prime time for one-horned rhinos, Bengal tigers and leopards. Return for breakfast and a mandatory 2-hour midday rest. Afternoon guided jungle walk with a trained naturalist — animal tracks, medicinal plants and birdlife. Evening Tharu village visit alongside the park boundary.
Early morning bird watching walk through the buffer zone — over 650 species at first light. Leisurely breakfast and a free afternoon in Sauraha village. Morning drive from Chitwan to Lumbini — approximately 3 hours through the flat Terai plains, arriving in time for a full afternoon at the UNESCO-listed Sacred Garden. Visit Maya Devi Temple built over the exact birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama in 623 BC, the Ashoka Pillar from 249 BC, Puskarini Sacred Pond, and the Bodhi Tree garden at sunset. Lumbini moves slowly — let it.
Morning in the International Monastic Zone — temples and pagodas from China, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Thailand, Germany, France and 15+ other nations. Visit the World Peace Pagoda with hilltop views over the entire sacred zone. Afternoon drive to Tilaurakot — the ancient palace ruins where young Siddhartha spent his first 29 years. Close the visit at Kapilavastu Archaeological Museum.
Optional 6:00 AM sunrise walk through the Lumbini Sacred Garden — the most peaceful hour of the entire trip. Breakfast and check out at leisure. Transfer to Bhairahawa Airport for the 25-minute domestic flight back to Kathmandu. Your Sacred Trails driver meets you on arrival — return to the homestay or direct to the international airport for onward travel.
