We regularly host students and language learners — some for a few nights before a field trip, others for weeks or months. Sacred Trails is a family home in Budhanilkantha, a calm residential neighbourhood on Kathmandu's northern edge, so it is a good place to study, sleep well and still reach the city easily.

Keeping costs down

  • Share a Deluxe Twin room: $35 a night for the room, so about $17.50 each — with a private bathroom and breakfast included.
  • Stay 3 nights or more for 5% off, or 7 nights or more for 6% off; weekly and monthly rates on request.
  • Book 14 or more days ahead for 5% off, or 30 or more days ahead for 6% off.
  • Studying with a group of classmates? Ask for a group quote when you book several rooms.
  • No booking fees when you book direct, and no card needed to hold a room.

Somewhere to study

Every room has a study table, and fast, unlimited Wi-Fi covers the rooms, the lobby and the rooftop. Laundry is available for a small charge. The nearest bus stop is about 10 minutes' walk away, with regular buses and minibuses into the city, and the family can help you with buses, SIM cards and local food when you first arrive.

Treks on a student budget

The Poon Hill Trek (6 days, from $700 per person) is our shortest, most affordable and easiest trek — no high altitude, short walking days and a Himalayan sunrise from 3,210 m. Trekking alone? Tell us your dates and we will run a private trek for you or try to match you with other travellers.

Tours for curious minds

The Kathmandu City Tour (4 nights / 5 days, from $280 per person) covers the valley's UNESCO-listed sites — Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, Patan and Bhaktapur — with a professional guide, while you stay at the homestay. For a break from the books, the Chitwan National Park Safari (4 days, from $340 per person) adds jeep safaris, jungle walks and Tharu village life.
