Kathmandu in Winter: December to February
Clear sunny days, cold mornings and fewer crowds: what winter in Kathmandu is like, what to pack, and how we keep you warm at Sacred Trails.

Winter in Kathmandu means blue skies and sunny days, with cold mornings and evenings. Crowds are smaller than in autumn, and the valley is lovely for sightseeing.
What the weather is like
Days are usually dry and bright. Mornings and nights are cold — close to freezing at times — and morning fog can sit in the valley until the sun burns it off.
What to pack
- A warm jacket, a fleece and a hat for mornings and evenings.
- Thermal layers if you feel the cold.
- Sunglasses and sunscreen for bright days.
Trekking in winter
Lower treks such as Poon Hill are good in winter, with clear views. High routes are very cold and passes can close with snow — talk to us before you choose.
Staying warm with us
Every room has extra blankets for cool nights, and heaters are available on request. Hot showers run around the clock, and sunny afternoons on the rooftop are a winter treat.
