Nagarkot is a hill village on the eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley, about 30 km from the city. On a clear morning, the sun rises over a long line of Himalayan peaks. We arrange an early car from the homestay so you can see it and be back for a late breakfast.
When to go
- October to December brings the clearest skies and the best chance of mountain views.
- Spring mornings can be hazy; monsoon months (June–September) are usually cloudy.
- Check the weather the night before — we'll help you decide.
What to bring
- Warm layers: it's cold on the rim before dawn.
- A camera and a flask of tea.
- Patience — the light changes quickly in the first half hour.
Make it a full day
After sunrise, stop in Bhaktapur on the way back for its squares and juju dhau yoghurt, or visit Changu Narayan temple.
